McKayla was left alone with the instructions to stretch all day, because she wasn’t allowed to do anything else. She had been doing the middle splits for probably the past hour as she watched everyone else training. “What’s up?” Aly asked her, stopping a few inches in front of McKayla. “Nothing,” McKayla sighed. She glanced up and bit her lip as Aly joined her. Aly laughed, “What?” “Hey,” McKayla said, before she put her elbows on the floor and her chin on her hands. “Hey yourself,” Aly replied mimicking McKayla’s actions so that their eyes were level. “Did I ever tell you I love your eyes?” McKayla asked Aly, who shook her head. “What about your hair?” she asked, this time Aly nodded. “Why are you being so sweet all of the sudden?” Aly asked. “Tomorrow is the last day here and I want you to know how much I love you before you go,” McKayla answered. Aly rolled her eyes. “Any nice things you want to say about me?” Mac asked her. She looked at Aly expectantly and tapped her wrist. “Do I have to say all of them?” Aly asked and McKayla nodded. “It may take a while,” she warned her. “Don’t worry, I’ve got time.”
“Well,” Aly said, as if she was in deep thought and McKayla got even closer to her. “Well?” “I love your nose,” Aly offered, she couldn’t think of where to start. McKayla frowned, “My nose is weird.” “It’s adorable,” Aly corrected her. “What else do you love about me?” McKayla inquired. “Your eyes,” Aly said. “I already said that about you!” McKayla said. “Do you know why I love your eyes?” Aly asked and Mac shook her head. “I love the color they are, and the fact that they change color sometimes, and the bitch face you make a lot, if you didn’t have eyes like those, it just wouldn’t be the same,” Aly said seriously, but her smirk gave her away. “I don’t know if that made me angry or happy,” McKayla said. “People are leaving,” Aly said getting up. “No shit,” Mac scoffed, rolling her eyes at the statement. Aly shook her head and gave McKayla her hand so she could pull her up, “Let’s go to the lake.”
McKayla held onto Aly’s hand as they walked down to the lake, and she would pull Aly closer to kiss her cheek every once in a while. They took the longest way possible, and once they got there, the sun was already starting to set. “This is like some lame romantic movie,” McKayla commented, but she kept her focus on the other side of the large lake, where the rest of the people at camp were. Aly shrugged. “Right now is the part where you say something cheesy and then we kiss with fireworks in the background, or something like that,” McKayla said. “Why fireworks?” Aly asked her. “It just seemed like a nice touch,” McKayla replied. It was early January and this night was particularly cold, so it didn’t take long for McKayla to start shivering. “Why is it so cold?” she asked. “It is winter babe,” Aly said, sitting down on one of the rocks and pulling McKayla onto her lap. The younger girl stopped shaking, let her head rest on Aly’s shoulder and closed her eyes. Aly was pretty sure she had fallen asleep when McKayla didn’t speak for a few minutes and she started to lift her up to take her to bed. “I’m going to miss you,” she heard McKayla whisper tiredly. “I’ll miss you too,” Aly said, kissing McKayla’s neck. After a while she was positive McKayla was sleeping, and carried her all the way back to their cabin.
“Did she faint?” Kyla asked the concern evident in her voice. “No, she’s fine,” Aly reassured Kyla. “Then why were you carrying her?” Kyla questioned. “She fell asleep,” Aly stated, and then she crawled into the bed. “I’m going back to bed,” Kyla said with a yawn, turning off her light. Aly looked down at the sleeping girl beside her and smiled. She put her arms around McKayla’s waist and McKayla turned sideways so she was facing Aly. Her eyes fluttered open and she blinked a few times, trying to get her vision back to normal. “Go back to sleep,” Aly whispered, kissing the top of McKayla’s head. “I love you so much Als,” McKayla whispered, her voice was still slurred from sleep and she took Aly’s hand, putting it on her chest where her heat beat was. Aly did the same, and kissed McKayla gently. “I love you too McKayla,” she whispered. They just stayed like that, taking each other in and occasionally kissing each other’s cheek or forehead. “Promise you won’t ever go?” McKayla asked, her eyelids were getting heavy and she was about to fall asleep again. “I promise,” Aly whispered, letting her own eyes close and drifting off to sleep.
